The Unfallen | Daruma
The artwork that began the Hashira Study Series.
Originally created to fill a tall, narrow space in my own home, this piece introduced a format that quickly became the foundation for an entire collection.
At its center is a traditional Daruma with one eye painted, a Japanese custom that symbolizes setting a personal goal or intention.
The second eye is completed only once that goal has been achieved.
Beneath the Daruma, the kanji 勇 (Yū), meaning courage or bravery, reflects a belief that has always resonated with me: every meaningful goal requires the courage to pursue it.
Set against a soft blue background, the composition keeps its focus on the Daruma and its symbolism.
For me, this artwork serves as a quiet reminder of perseverance and purpose.
I hope it finds a place in someone's home where it can become a personal symbol of their own ambitions, determination, and the courage to keep moving forward.
